Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is it that A Different Perspective Photography (ADP Photo Studio) offers that the others don’t?
When Jennifer and I developed the idea of "A Different Perspective Photography" we wanted to design a studio with the customer in mind. We do not watch the clock and we don’t count how many times we have to stop for a break. This session is going to be about making a portrait that you will look back on in 10 or 15 years and smile.
To begin with, we don’t even start a session without having a consultation first. There is, of course, never a charge for this consultation. During the consultation we get a chance to learn about you and your family and what you want to accomplish. We will discuss what your family likes to do, what types of clothing and looks they like and what type of budget you have for this session.
Most places will only take 4 pictures and tell you that you have to pick from those. We will take upwards of 100 pictures if necessary to get the ones that make you happy. If you are not happy with the proofs we take, we will invite you back in for another session, no charge, to try to get the picture you are wanting. If there are differences between the proofs that you saw and the pictures that were printed, we will re-print them at no charge to you.
When your proofs are ready we invite you back into our studio to sit in our viewing room, have a cup of coffee or tea with us and look at them on a larger TV screen. This way you can see them and also give us feedback right then. We will take notes and make any corrections that you request if possible.
A lot of photography studios will promise you your pictures in 1 hr, 24 hrs, 2 weeks, etc. We normally have the proofs ready in approx 2 weeks from the time of the session. After you review the proofs it is normally another 2 weeks to get the prints. But, we will not rush this and if there are other changes you need, or we need to do an extra session to get what you want then it may take a bit longer. When you get your pictures, we guarantee you will be happy with them!
One thing that ADP does not offer that others do is package pricing. Jennifer and I believe that the pictures you order need to be fitted to you, not to what is easy for us. We will work with you on creating a package of pictures and pricing that is right for you with a price that is within your budget.
2. What if my baby is not feeling well?
If you or your baby or any other member of your family who is going to be in the photo is not feeling well the day before or of the shoot, please reschedule. We understand. We would much rather have portraits of a happy family as we are sure you would as well. We all know that when you are not feeling well it shows! If you have a question about any blemishes or a rash, give us a call. If we are doing the portraits in black and white, this type of photography is very forgiving of your baby’s little rashes, but if you feel more comfortable rescheduling, that is fine with us. This can be a reason why you might choose to have your baby’s newborn pictures taken at 1 or 2 weeks of age--many times their skin is perfectly smooth then. If your baby’s skin is flaky, keep baby lotion at the ready for a quick skin massage.
3. What should we wear?
For baby - . Think simple and classic. The photo session that is done in the hospital will be done in the wrap that baby is in there. If you have a special wrap that is a gift for the baby, please have the baby in it. That makes for a special memento not only for the parents, but the loving person that gave the gift. Mom, whatever you are comfortable in at the time is what you should wear. Make sure that any family members you want in the portrait are there as well.
When it is time to do the session in the studio or at the home, onesies and their own skin is your best bet, with a marvelous heirloom-christening gown coming in second. Stretchy hats, headbands and flowers that fit your baby are great. Also wonderful to photograph with Baby are any blankets, quilts, or Afghans that have been made for them. Texture is wonderful in black and white. Don’t forget that special stuffed animal or toy that was given to the baby. We will also have props to use for your babies pictures if you choose. We tend to like a very natural session for the babies first session.
Mom and Dad (and any siblings) should wear a black shirt. Mom, if you are wanting a skin to skin shot with the baby you may want to have a tank top or a shirt that is easy to slide down. We can also take the portrait tastefully if you choose to do it without a shirt on. Another reminder for all you dads out there (and moms too) that work with your hands all day. It is very important to have your nails clean as many of the pictures will be including you holding the baby. But, don’t worry, for those spots that just wont come out Jennifer is a wonderful artist and can take care of that area for you.
On Location - A classic, simple look helps to create a natural looking portrait. We advise you to stay away from bright colors, busy patterns and anything else that will take the focus away from the subject. Lighter clothes work better for color portraits. If it is going to be a family portrait, the entire family should dress the same. For instance, everyone is wearing blue jeans and a white button down shirt. This holds true for group shots as well.
For the older children and adults in studio - solid colors are best. Think about the type of look that you are going for. We will discuss much more in detail during your consultation.
4. How long will the sessions last?
Sessions are always done at a leisurely pace and will never last longer than 2 hours. Parents are encouraged to bring young children snacks. We will be giving many breaks for children to unwind and play. We like to interact with children to capture their playful spirit so parents may be asked to move aside so the child does not watch them and plays without hesitation. No more "Say Cheese". Even when the session is not in progress we may see that perfect picture. Don’t be surprised if we are still snapping away while you are taking a breath.
For a shoot with a newborn there is no time limit. We will be there until we all agree that we have achieved what we came for. We already understand that there are going to need to be breaks in the session for feeding and changing. This is not a problem. We will be working at the baby’s pace, not ours. It is recommended that you try to time the shoot around nap time and not around the feeding time. If you are coming into the studio for your session, plan to spend at least 1 – 1 ½ hours. Bring what you will need for feeding and taking care of the baby. If you are breast feeding we will provide a quiet place for you to feed the baby. If you would like, we can also take a private photo of your nursing your child...no skin will be seen.
Again, we try not to rush and are more concerned with the quality of the session then we are with how long it takes.
5. Do we need to bring anything?
Please feel free to bring whatever you would like to see in the pictures, even your pet! If the child has a favorite toy, bring it. If your daughter has a favorite dress to play dress up in, bring it. Does you son play football? Have him bring his uniform and his football. We have some props, but we prefer to use yours, as these are a part of you and your family.
6. When do we pay?
A $100.00 deposit is required to hold your appointment time. The balance for the session is due at the time of the session. We accept cash, check, Visa and MasterCard. Payment for your photos will be due at the time of ordering. Your prints will be available approx 1 – 2 wks after being ordered.
7. How do we view our pictures after they are taken?
We will have you back into the studio to do a first viewing of your proofs. Also, we will create a separate and password protected web page for you to view them. We will e-mail you an order form and the link (URL) to your page and you will pick the images and sizes you want. We will display the images we took and change some of them so you can see the different type of pictures that are available such as sepia, black and white, color, etc. These proofs are normally available to review within 1-2 weeks and you will receive an email with your password protected gallery information.
